Twins Birth 3-11-2010

On Thursday, March 11, I had an OB appointment for my 36-week check-up in the morning. My mother-in-law was watching Gabriella while I was gone. My doctor checked the twins' heartbeat, and they were doing well. Afterwards, he checked to see if I had any dilated, and I was only 1 cm dilated. My doctor wanted me to go to ultrasound right across from the office. I told him that I had an ultrasound appointment the next day, but he insisted that I go to ultrasound that moment. At first, I felt something wasn't right and started worrying what was going on. I kept thinking positively and waited to see what was going on. I went into the ultrasound room, and the ultrasound doctor checked the twins and everything else inside my belly. Suspiciously, the doctor kept focusing on my right side too long, but she did check the other twin for a short time. I was planning to ask the doctor if everything was okay. Before I asked, she informed me that I had low amniotic fluid on my right side where Twin A (Girl) was. She asked me if I had leaking, water broken, or anything. I told her no. Out of the blue, the doctor said that twins had to get out right away. I was shocked and was having a roller coaster of emotion. I didn't want twins to come out at that moment because it was too early for them to come out. I was hoping to keep them longer so they could grow more. Unfortunately, it didn't happen, so I was admitted to the Labor & Delivery Department. Also, the ultrasound doctor called my OB doctor to inform him of my situation. The ultrasound doctor called Kevin, and I texted him to have him come here from Cleveland right away. The nurses put me on three monitors, started an IV, gave me sugar water for my gestational diabetes, and an antibiotic to prevent bacteria/infection, and induced labor. It drove me crazy, and at the same time I was emotional since Kevin wasn't there yet.

At around 1 pm, I received the drug that induces labor, and then waited for my contractions to start. Finally, Kevin arrived at around 4:30 pm. I was so happy to see him and felt much better! My OB doctor came to check me to see how I was doing after they had induced. He mentioned that he was surprised that it happened. In a while, I started having contractions, and it wasn't fun. By the time I was about 3-4 cm dilated, I received epidural. What a big relief to have epidural so that I couldn't feel anything! We waited and waited for my full dilation before giving birth to the twins. My OB doctor stopped by again and checked how dilated I was, and it was 8 cm. The doctor said it was time for me to go to the O.R where we had to go for delivery. They put Kevin into scrubs outfit and then took us to the O.R. In a few minutes later, my dilation was complete. The doctor had to pop my water before pushing to get the first twin out. After I pushed four times, welcome to our newborn girl, Celina Kasmira, at 11:18 pm. She weighted 5 lbs. 5 oz. The doctor also had to pop the water for twin boy. Again, I pushed four times, and welcome to our newborn boy, Jozef Tadeusz, at 11:26 pm. He weighted 5 lbs. They were 8 minutes apart. I was relieved that I gave birth to twins with no c-section. I was so happy that it was all over and were thrilled to see these adorable twins! Of course, I was so exhausted! Twins were taken to NICU for observation to make sure they were doing okay.

The next day, Kevin and I went to the NICU to see our Twins. The NICU nurse told us that Celina was doing well and ate well. Jozef had a slight breathing problem for a few hours and had low blood sugar. Of course, the twins lost some weight like all newborns do. Also, Jozef didn't eat very well. After 24 hours of birth, Celina was delivered to my room to stay with me the whole time since she was doing well! Jozef was still at NICU and had tube feeding. The next two days, Jozef recovered from breathing problem and low sugar. At that time, all he had was having problem with eating and continuing to lose a little weight.

Our parents visited us at the hospital to see their twin grandchildren. They were thrilled and saw how adorable these twins were.
